This year when the Ekka show day rolled around, things were a little different. One showground was split into many, and the smaller venues had strict capacity limits. The lingering threat of COVID-19 had people confined to their homes and unwilling to celebrate the annual event. With people already disappointed by the show’s cancellation, the Scully RSV team knew they had an opportunity to create good out of a bad situation. Acting as partners to The Common Good, Scully RSV helped Brisbane get their much needed Ekka Strawberry Sundae fix, and helped fund critical medical research in the process! Here’s how.
Pop Up Locations
The unique Ekka Strawberry Sundae is normally only available at the Ekka. However, with COVID-19 restrictions and the 2020 Ekka cancelled, The Common Good developed a strategy which used Scully RSV’s to bring the iconic sundaes to Brisbane. This included pop up locations throughout Brisbane suburbs including:
- Brisbane Airport
- Albany Creek
- Everton Park and,
- Bowen Hills
With a mixture of drive-through pop up locations and strictly EFTPOS payments, The Common Good was able to safely roll out this initiative using a number of Scully’s refrigerated service vehicles.
Which Scully RSV’s Were Used?
In order to deliver the ice creams to each pop-up location, The Common Good reached out to Scully RSV to organise the short term hire of 3 refrigerated service vehicles. These included:
Scully RSV’s Capacity for the Ekka Strawberry Sundae
Each truck used in this project held the capacity to deliver roughly 2 pallets of Ekka Strawberry Sundae ice cream at any one time. These trucks were delivering at intervals throughout the day, providing Brisbane with literal ‘truckloads’ of ice cream.
How Many Ekka Strawberry Sundaes Were Sold?
Over the course of 9 days, 90,000 Strawberry Sundaes were sold. This resulted in 3 years of critical medical research being funded in advance.
What Scully RSV is Doing Moving Forward
Thrilled to be part of such a great cause helping Brisbane get their Ekka Strawberry Sundae fix, Scully RSV is now working with a number of charities to support the local community. If you’re interested in a partnership or a truck hire, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
