We thought we’d expand on this topic for our blog, so here are 4 more weird road rules that you should be aware of for your next trip!
Don’t Run Out of Fuel in Germany!
On the autobahn in Germany, it is illegal for drivers to stop or break down for any reason other than an emergency. Running out of fuel is considered ‘driver negligence,’ and could get you a fine or even a driving ban. Make sure that you top your car up before you get on this freeway!
Don’t Drive on the Wrong Day in the Philippines!
To combat heavy congestion in the Philippines, there is a law called ‘Number Coding’. This rule reduces traffic congestion by restricting the vehicles that are allowed to drive on certain public roads, based on the last digit of their number plates. According to Carmudi Insider, the Number Coding Scheme runs from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday to Friday. License plates ending with either 1 and 2 are banned on Monday, 3 and 4 are banned on Tuesday, 5 and 6 are banned on Wednesday, 7 and 8 are banned on Thursday, and 9 and 0 are banned on Friday. If you get the day wrong you can cop a hefty fine!
Keep Your Shirt on in Thailand!
Thailand can get pretty hot, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to take your shirt off! Travelling without a shirt is against the law on any form of transport, including buses, tuk-tuks and cars. This rule applies to men and women, and you will be fined if you’re caught doing it! Read more about Thailand’s strange laws here.
Don’t Transport Potatoes in Western Australia!
We just had to include this weird rule from home! In Western Australia, it is illegal to drive with more than 50kg of potatoes in your car – unless, of course, you are a member of the ‘Potato Corporation’. This law is a relic from the post-War era. If you break it once, you can be fined $2000. If you break it again, the fine could go up to $5000. You might need to look into alternative forms of potato transport!
